Caring for your Campanulas

Straight from our growers' notes: how to unbox these stems, how to keep them, and what they look good next to.

Campanula bells are as delicate as they look, and they are worth the care.

Cut an inch off each stem, strip the lower leaves, and get them into clean, cool water with flower food within the hour.

Keep them well away from the fruit bowl. Campanula is sensitive to the ethylene that ripening fruit gives off, and it will drop bells early because of it.

As the lower bells finish, pinch them off. The stem keeps looking fresh for days longer when you do.

Recommended Delivery Date: 2 days before your event / Keep flowers away from excessive heat.

Campanula brings an airy vertical with soft bells, which is a rare combination. Build it in late: the bells shatter when they are knocked around, so the less handling after they are placed, the better.

Let the stems arch naturally rather than forcing them straight. That curve is the whole point of the flower.

Plays well with garden roses, astrantia and eucalyptus.
